The upcoming concert by the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra sees the welcome return of renowned violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky to Medina Theatre. The orchestra will be accompanying Alexander in Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a work that was originally composed under conditions of severe censorship in the Soviet Union during the post-war years (it was only performed many years later in 1955 – after Stalin’s death).
Glinka’s overture to Russlan and Ludmilla and Faure’s Pavane precede Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto, with Sibelius’ atmospheric and enigmatic 5th Symphony providing the second half of the evening’s music.
Tickets are available as normal from Medina Theatre box office, and the concert starts at the new time of 7.15pm on Saturday the 26th of January.
